Abstract
The increase in the elderly population in Brazil demands new healthcare approaches, highlighting the importance of Integrated Continuous Care Units (UCCI). This study evaluated global muscle strength, frailty, and mobility in 31 hospitalized elderly patients in a UCCI, comparing admission and discharge moments. The average muscle strength score increased to 44.61±1.67 points on the MRC scale (p<0.001), while mobility improved from 23.15±4.57 to 37.95±3.87 points on the Morton scale (p<0.001). A significant improvement in frailty levels was also observed using the Rockwood scale (p<0.001). These findings emphasize the need for special attention to geriatric healthcare in hospital environments to attend to the growing demand for care in Brazil.
