Abstract
This article aims to analyze the growth of the services sector and the pendulum movements that occurred after the recent process of internalization of higher education in the semi-arid region of Northeast Brazil. To do this, we use a case study carried out in the municipality of Pau dos Ferros (RN), which, having been included in the federal government's policy of increasing and creating new teaching campuses, differs economically from municipalities in your surroundings. Through the analysis of local indicators, IBGE, bibliographical references and data from SEBRAE of Rio Grande do Norte, the increase in the circulation of students and education professionals in search of vacancies in educational institutions is evident. Predominantly, this is the biggest reason for the diversification and growth of the services sector, for the generation of jobs and for the city to be a polarizing center in the region.
